Robot Wars

As part of Abercorn School's Legobotics initiative, on 4th March, seven lucky pupils and one teacher travelled to Westway Park in Renfrew to take part in the filming of the new series of Robot Wars.  The programme stopped airing about 10 years ago but will be back on our screens soon.  Previous host Craig Charles is no longer with the show and has been replaced with hosts Dara O'Briain and Angela Scanlon both of whom were excellent and entertaining.

Filming Arena: Pupils arrived on location at 11am and were escorted to the premises - a huge warehouse (building G) to the rear of the Westway Park industrial complex in Renfrew.

After being ushered into the main warehouse, pupils were seated around the bulletproof protection that surrounds the arena.  There were two robot battles to take place in our allocated time and also some filming for introductions to the show.  The different traps were tested including the Fire, Spikes, Catapult and the infamous Pit!

Battleground: The main arena was surrounded with bullet proof glass!

Unfortunately, it was not possible to take pictures during the filming but our pupils had a fantastic time and were very interested to see how the robotic principles they had learned could be applied to larger and more complex machines.
