Abercorn's Shinty Success

On Monday the 24th August and Tuesday 25th August five of our young people and two teachers travelled to Aviemore to compete in the annual National Disability Shinty Competition. They stayed at Glenmore Lodge, a beautiful setting, looking on to the Cairngorm mountains.

On Monday the team trained with Roanld Ross, who is the one of the best Shinty players of all time having scored over 1000 competitive goals for his team.  This was a great learning experience and truly inspirational for the boys.

The players and coaches: many schools took part in the competiton and there is a resurgence in the popularity of the sport

On Tuesday the competition took place. Abercorn played 8 games, winning 7 of them and sitting top of the league by the end of the opening round.  The final saw Abercorn take on Staincastle and, in a very closely fought game, come out on top with a 3-2 victory. The team were delighted with their performance and proudly took the trophy back to Glasgow.
