Abercorn win Glasgow Sports School of the Year
On Friday 19th February four teachers and four pupils attended Glasgow’s Sports Personality of the Year awards at the Glasgow City Chambers. This is an annual ceremony highlighting sporting achievements throughout the City and surrounding area. Along with Smithycroft Secondary and Cleveden Secondary, Abercorn had been nominated for Secondary Sports School of the Year.
It was a nerve-racking evening for our pupils but even through all the excitement and anticipation they were able to stand up in front of the assembled audience to give a speech about how the school had helped them achieve to their full potential. The audience and judges were clearly listening and awarded Abercorn school with the prestigious title of Glasgow Sports School of the Year 2016.

Our pupils were overjoyed at winning the award and a huge thank you goes to the staff who made it possible. Also attending the event were a host of famous figures including Judy Murray and boxing champion Charlie Flynn. This provided a great opportunity for our young people to meet some of their heroes with Charlie in particular proving an entertaining and inspiring figure.
