Robot Wars

As part of Abercorn School's work with robotics, on 5th December, six lucky pupils and one teacher travelled to Westway Park in Renfrew to take part in the filming of the new series of Robot Wars.  Hosts Dara O'Briain and Angela Scanlon were on set so filming was split between interviews with contestants, introductions to various parts and of the show and (most importantly)  robot battles!

Outside the arena       The audience takes their seats

After arriving at 1.30pm pupils were ushered into the reception area where the house rules were explained to them.  The audience was then guided to the arena where they were seated outside the surrounding bulletproof protection and waited for the first battle to begin.

Protection: Bulletproof glass surrounds the battleground.  Spikes visibile in the background.

Filming: Angela Scanlon, one of the hosts, films an introduction for the show.

There were four robot battles to take place in our allocated time, each of which had it's fair share of exciting moments including one robot being set on fire by the house robots and another being launched clean out the battleground!  One house rule was that no spoilers were to be posted to social media so pictures of the actual battles were prohibited (if you want to know the results, you'll need to watch the new series starting in 2017!).   All our pupils enjoyed the experience and we hope to be back next year.

Robot Wars Faces: Craig and Connor enjoying the show!
