MacMillan Coffee Morning

On Tuesday 3rd October Abercorn School held a coffee morning in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.  The event was planned and run by S3 pupils as part of their Personal Development Award.  Macmillan are a Scottish charity who give emotional and finacial support to people who have been diagnosed with cancer and Abercorn School is proud to support them.

Our group first looked at their own skills and qualities and decided what role each member of the team would be best suited to take on.  Some students were more inclined to take on admin type roles while others wanted to get involved in the practicalities of the day.

Admin: Emma Posts a memo to school staff informing them of the event. Setting Up: Braden and Liam wheel out the crockery for the staff room.

Staff and students were surveyed to see what sort of cakes and delicacies they would enjoy.   These results were collated and decisions were taken on what should be made.  Staff were then notified of the event through a circulated memo.  On the day itself, pupils were responsible for setting up a counter to serve pupils and for laying out the table in the staffroom.

Smiles: Kimberley decorates the sponge cakes. Good Job!: Liam displays his freshly baked flapjacks.

Yummy: Lily taking cakes to the staffroom Serving: Ross serving at the counter on the day

Both the service and the food on the day were excellent and the group set an example with their waiting skills and overall professionalism!  A total of £235 was raised for Macmillan Cancer Support making the day a resounding success.
